Journal Entry 22 Sunday, May 23, 2004 Kedins Inn

Last night our Balinese family showed up all cute and shy-like to have dinner with us at the cafe here on our now-fond-of home street, little Poppies Lane.  The parents kindly being conservative about what the boys can order Re: the costs... though we don't know the difference between the prices on the menu, it all seems wonderfully inexpensive to us with the differences being $1. Plates of Indonesian food about $3. One little warung that our pack-backing friends took us to is so inexpensive we can pile up our plates with the most tasty and delicious food and order several drinks and it's still under $2 per person, seriously!

We walked barefoot with the kids & Iketuts sweet wife down to the beach to play in the waves.  They were too shy to try a boogie board so we had to trick them into using ours, and then run and rent another one while they tried it.

Ketut was very frightened of the waves and barely would go in past her ankles so she spent the day in the sand-machine (edge of the waves) but laughing and loving it nonetheless.  The boys took to it like all universal kids will: standing up on it, getting INTO it...only to smack hard like the rest of us.

Winding down beautifully at sunset with a playful game of tag on the beach with Morgan and the boys, then we said our goodbyes as the sun disappeared into the sea.  The kids will have school tomorrow and Iketut will work at the Hotel while Ketut will begin the back-braking harvest of her rice.

Morgan and I decided to decline the second invite to their village.  This was for magic shadow-puppet show and women’s dance.  Though our last visit was the best part of the trip we just couldn’t bring ourselves to go through that experience of so much attention again.
